For Researchers
Coming SoonThe Archive of American Radio maintains one of the largest structured datasets of American radio drama. We support academic and computational research with open catalog access and a curated audio corpus.
The Catalog
233,264 episodes across 3,054 series, spanning 1920 to 1982. Every episode is cataloged with structured metadata: airdates, cast, networks, genres, and loglines. The catalog is available through a REST API with full-text search.
Audio Corpus
Professional multi-speaker dramatic dialogue from radio's golden age. The collection includes mysteries, comedies, westerns, science fiction, horror, and variety shows from every major U.S. network — CBS, NBC, Mutual, ABC.
Use Cases
- Speech and speaker diarization research
- Historical media studies and cultural analysis
- Multi-speaker dialogue modeling and generation
- Audio classification and genre detection
- Broadcast history and network programming studies
Access
Catalog data is open with attribution. Audio access for research purposes is available on request. We work with universities and research labs on a case-by-case basis.
