Archive of American Radio, Inc. ("we", "us", or "our") operates the Anthology mobile application (the "App"). This Privacy Policy describes how we collect, use, and protect your information when you use the App.

Summary

Anthology is designed with privacy in mind. We do not collect personal information, do not require user accounts, and do not share your data with third parties. All your listening data stays on your device and your personal iCloud account.

  • Names or personal identifiers
  • Location data
  • Contacts
  • Photos or media
  • Advertising identifiers

Information Stored Locally

The App stores the following data only on your device (and optionally synced to your personal iCloud account):

Listening History

  • Episodes you have played
  • Playback position and progress
  • Listening session timestamps
  • Episodes marked as completed

Playlists

  • Custom playlists you create
  • Episodes added to playlists

Downloaded Episodes

  • Audio files you download for offline listening

App Preferences

  • Theme and display settings
  • Playback preferences (sleep timer, autoplay settings)

iCloud Sync

If you have iCloud enabled on your device, the App may sync your listening history, playlists, and preferences across your Apple devices using your personal iCloud account. This data is:

  • Stored in your private iCloud container
  • Not accessible to us
  • Subject to Apple's iCloud Privacy Policy
  • Controllable via your device's iCloud settings

Device Identifier

The App uses Apple's Vendor Identifier (identifierForVendor) solely to:

  • Synchronize playback position across your own devices
  • Track which of your devices contributed to listening sessions

This identifier:

  • Is unique to you and our app only
  • Cannot be used to track you across other apps
  • Is automatically reset if you uninstall the App
  • Is never shared with third parties

Audio Streaming

When you stream episodes, your device connects directly to our content delivery servers. We do not log or store your IP address or streaming activity for analytics purposes.

Feedback and Issue Reports

When you voluntarily submit feedback or report an issue with an episode, we collect the following information to help us improve our content:

  • Episode name, series, and episode ID
  • Your issue description (what you typed)
  • Anonymized device identifier (resets if you uninstall the app)
  • App version, iOS version, and device model
  • Country (derived from device locale)

This data is:

  • Only collected when you explicitly submit a report
  • Used solely to fix audio quality issues and improve episode metadata
  • Stored securely on our servers
  • Never sold or shared with third parties
  • Not linked to any personal identity

Third-Party Services

The App does not use:

  • Analytics services (Google Analytics, Firebase, etc.)
  • Advertising networks
  • Crash reporting services that collect personal data
  • Social media integrations
  • Any third-party SDKs that collect user data

Data Security

All data is stored:

  • Locally on your device using iOS secure storage
  • In your personal iCloud account (if enabled)
  • Audio content is delivered via HTTPS encrypted connections

Children's Privacy

The App does not knowingly collect any personal information from children under 13. The App contains content from classic radio dramas (1930s-1960s) which may include themes appropriate for general audiences.

Your Rights

Since we do not collect personal data:

  • There is no personal data to request, correct, or delete from our servers
  • Your local data can be deleted by uninstalling the App
  • iCloud data can be managed through your device's Settings > [Your Name] > iCloud

Data Retention

  • Local data: Retained until you uninstall the App or manually clear app data
  • iCloud data: Retained in your iCloud account until you delete it or uninstall the App

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by posting the new Privacy Policy in the App and updating the "Last Updated" date.

California Privacy Rights

California residents may have additional rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA). However, since we do not collect personal information as defined by CCPA, these rights are not applicable to our App.

International Users

The App is operated from the United States. If you access the App from outside the United States, your local data remains on your device and is subject to your local data protection laws.
